Carlsberg lifts Danish investments abroad

The Danish direct investments abroad rose last year DKK 100 billion to DKK 900 billion at the end of 2008. It was Danish history’s largest acquisition abroad which made the investment sum surge.
In 2003 the Danish investments exceeded DKK 400 billion and they have since then increased steadily each year. But the increase in 2008 was mainly driven by Carlsberg’s acquisition of the brewery Scottish & Newcasle for DKK 57 billion, it appears of the Danish central bank’s statistics for direct investments.

While Carlsberg’s gigantic acquisition increased the Danish investments abroad, the foreign direct investments in Denmark stagnated last year and amounted to DKK 693 billion.

»At an international level direct investments have been strongly affected by the financial crisis. Both the inflow and outflow of direct investments in the OECD area have been falling in 2008 and in the beginning of 2009,« the Danish central bank wrote.

The EU countries, the EEA countries and Switzerland account for three quarters of the total Danish direct investments, the neighbour countries Sweden, Germany, Great Britain and Norway being the most important.
