SAS is still flying with a loss on the bottom line, but had it not been for the Icelandic ash cloud, the second-quarter result for the troubled airline company would have been positive.
The ash cloud which closed the European airspace has cost the company about DKK 550 million, and the consequence is that a profit of about DKK 366 million was transformed to a loss. For the first half-year SAS recorded a loss of DKK 958 million after tax. This is, however, nearly DKK 500 million above the result for the same period last year.
This financial report is CEO Mats Jansson’s last half-year report as head of the airline group. A little over a week ago he announced that the resigns in the autumn after only four years as head of the Scandinavian airline companyl. Ritzau/BNS
