Shares in Vestas rose substantially on morning trading after the news of another large order. The company’s value spiked after it confirmed it is to deliver 140 V112-3.0 megawatt (MW) turbines to a 420 MW wind park in Australia.
The Macarthur Wind Farm, a joint project steered by AGL Energy Limited and Meridian Ltd, will become the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere, Vestas said. The first turbines are expected on site during Q3 2011 with the whole project expected fully installed by the first half of 2013. The project represents the largest single order for Vestas in the Australia and Asia Pacific region.
Analysts agree that the order could potentially unlock new markets for the company.
"We see the V112-3.0 MW turbine as a very strong card in Vestas' efforts to retain its leading position in the wind power market" Sydbank writes.
Vestas will publish its interim financial report for Q2 on 18 August. The order does not affect Vestas' expectations for 2010.
By lunchtime, the company's share price was up 3.5 percent..
