The Danish balance of payments surplus for June was unexpectedly high, according to new figures from state analysis bureau Danmark's Statistik. At DKK 8.5 billion, June’s surplus was at a historical high for the fourth month in a row.
June’s figure was DKK 1.5 billion higher than expectations from both Royal Bank and Svenska Handelsbanken. Both banks had predicted a surplus of around DKK seven billion.
The value of Denmark’s goods surplus was DKK three billion in June, the surplus on services was DKK 5 billion, and the surplus on wage and property income was DKK 2.6 billion. Compared to June 2009, the overall surplus rose by DKK 2.3 billion while it increased by DKK 1.6 billion compared to May 2010. For the first six months of 2010, Denmark’s accumulated surplus was DKK 35.5 billion - DKK 13.8 billion higher than the same period last year.
The balance of payments records the total value of economic transactions made within a given period between the Danish balance of payments area and the rest of the world.
