Export Figures Remain Strong

04-08-2010 13:16 Danish exports continue to provide grounds for optimism, new figures show. According to the most recent figures issued by government analysis bureau Danmarks Statistik, exports rose just 0.2 percent between May and June but have risen by 22.6 percent in the past year.

"It's obviously very encouraging that exports are growing - not least because we are not just talking about a single month’s success,” said Steen Bocian, Chief Economist at Danske Bank. “With today's figures, we can see an overall export growth of 5.8 percent in the second quarter - a very high growth for a single quarter",

While the growth can be partly explained by improvements in the global economy, a relatively weak Danish kroner was also a factor.

Figures for domestic retail sales were less optimistic. Sales in June showed a decrease of 1.5 percent compared to May.
