Despite receiving the backing of the Prime Minister, beleaguered Foreign Minister Lene Espersen appears to have lost the support of many members of the public, writes Jyllands-Posten.
.
Espersen has been the target of strong criticism after failing to attend a number of key summits, including a scheduled meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. This criticism is now reflected in a new Ramboll poll suggesting that nearly 80 percent of the public think she is doing a poor job.
As well as skipping the meeting of Arctic countries, which Clinton attended while Espersen vacationed in Mallorca, the minister's other recent no-shows include a meeting with Israel’s ambassador, an EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Poland and an international security summit in Afghanistan.
Espersen, who is also the leader of the Conservative Party, has received the full backing of Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen
