Positive News for Berlingske

28-07-2010 11:22 Despite a declining circulation, Denmark’s Berlingske Media noted an operating profit of DKK 73 million in the first half of 2010. The result was DKK 64 million better than the same period last year.

The company, which counts Berlingske Tidende, BT and Business Recorder among its titles, noted a decrease in turnover of three percent to DKK 1.49 billion. However, this was more than offset by a seven percent fall in costs partly due to lower wage expenses resulting from layoffs.

"Operating income is unusually satisfactory at a time when much of the media industry’s earnings base is under heavy pressure," CEO Lisbeth Knudsen said in a statement issued to coincide with the results.

"In recent years Berlingske Media has been on transformational journey” she continued. “Our goal is to be a competitive and innovative media company that is in touch with our customers' needs,"

In addition to its national titles, Berlingske Media operates a number of other provincial and local newspapers.
