Danish export is doing fine

09-07-2010 10:13 The surplus on the trade balance was in May DKK 7.5 billion after a revised surplus in April of DKK 6.0 billion. Since February 2007, when the trade balance was in deficit, the foreign trade has recorded a steadily increasing surplus.
The latest data from Statistics Denmark show that the April surplus has been revised upwards from DKK 5.8 billion to DKK 6.0 billion.
In May the export of goods rose by 11.1 per cent and the import by 8.7 per cent. In the last three months the export has increased 11.3 per cent.
It is in particular the export of machinery and chemicals which contributes to this positive development, but all groups of goods show increases. Also the import shows a rising trend and rose 7.2 per cent in the same period.

Chief analyst Jakob Legård Jakobsen at Nykredit does not hesitate to call the month of May for a fantastic export month.
»We see very handsome results in the agricultural exports, in the export of chemical and pharmaceutical products and also nice increases in the industrial export. It is extremely positive that the export improvement was so broadly based as it was in May,« he wrote.
»We expect that the export will grow by just under 6 per cent this year and 5 per cent next year. Today’s figures might indicate, however, that the improvement could be even better,« he wrote.
