Record number of businesses shut down

While the number of bankruptcies remains stable at a record level, the number of people who lose their job in connection with a bankruptcy is increasing.
In June there were 539 bankruptcies after 568 the previous month, seasonally adjusted. The number of bankruptcies has thus gone down slightly but remains above the level at any time before 2010. In actual figures, there were 569 bankruptcies in June compared to the same month the previous year, Statistics Denmark wrote.
While the number of bankruptcies has fallen slightly from the month of May to the month of June, data from Statistics Denmark show that far more persons lose their job in connection with a bankruptcy.
In June, the bankrupt businesses had 1999 employees which is 68 per cent more than the 1190 employees in bankrupt businesses in May.
Many of the bankruptcies affect businesses without registered employees. In June, 47 per cent of the bankrupts businesses had no employees. Only 3 per cent of the bankrupt businesses had over 20 employees.
