Daily deficit of DKK 295 million

25-06-2010 10:21 In the first three months of 2010 the Danish public finances showed a deficit of DKK 26.6 billion, corresponding to a daily deficit in the first three months of DKK 295 million.
In the previous quarter the deficit amounted to DKK 22.0 billion. Compared to the same quarter last year the deficit has increased by DKK 13.1 billion, Statistics Denmark wrote.

It is a consolation, however, that the public spending decreased by DKK 3.1 billion, corresponding to a fall of 2.4 per cent to DKK 126.2 billion in the first quarter in current prices compared to the previous quarter. Compared to the same quarter last year the public spending has increased by 5.8 per cent.

In a recession period when Denmark compared to other comparable countries is badly affected by the global financial crisis, it is not surprising that for example expenses for unemployment benefits are increasing.
In the first quarter of 2010 the expenses for the unemployed rose by DKK 1.6 billion to DKK 6.1 billion compared to the previous quarter. Compared to the same quarter last year the expenses for unemployment benefits rose by DKK 2.9 billion.

The expenses for the state pension also continue to increase. Compared to the same quarter last year the increase is 11 per cent which is due to both the increasing number of pensioners and the pension-rate adjustment.

In the first quarter, tax receipts rose by DKK 5 billion to DKK 198 billion compared to the same quarter last year. Compared to the previous quarter the tax receipts were generally speaking unchanged in the first quarter of the year.
