13-02-2012 11:59 A.P.Møller- Mærsk’s port division, APM Terminals, announced today that it has signed a Heads of Terms agreement with Turkish Petkim Holdings which outlines key terms of a definitive agreement. The contract negotiations are still ongoing and further developments will be made public upon completion. The partnership between APM Terminals and Petkim Holdings concerns the operation of a new port terminal in the town Aliaga in Turkey.

“We have for a long time studied the Turkish market, and this is an outstanding opportunity to cooperate with a successful Turkish company. This is only a previous agreement, but in principle things have been agreed,” Tom Boyd, head of external communication at APM Terminals, told Aktiefocus.

The agreement with Petkim which involves investments of USD 350-400, means that already at the end of 2012 APM Terminals will take over the general operation of the present cargo port at Aliaga, Izmir Alsancak Port. At the same time Petkim will start building a new container terminal with a capacity of 1.5 million teu which is 50 per cent more than the capacity of the current terminal.
