Increased use of the “dankort”

The Danes’ use of the payment card, the dankort, amounted in January to DKK 500 million more than in January 2011. The economists disagree whether this is a sign of a positive or a negative trend.
The increase of DKK 500 million is the equivalent of an increase of 2.2 per cent compared to January last year. The increase is thus lower than the two preceding years with increases of 4.9 per cent in 2011 and 3.7 per cent in 2010.
According to chief economist Jes Asmussen, Handelsbanken, the new figures are not all that positive. Quite the contrary.
