Economically, 2012 took a bad start, as the number of bankruptcies exceeded 500 in January. There is a striking contrast between the many bankruptcies in January 2012 and the general development in 2011, and this illustrates new problems for Danish business.
Figures from Statistics Denmark show, that in December 2011 there were 449 bankruptcies compared to 511 in January 2012, seasonally adjusted. This increase of 62 is quite notable and brings the bankruptcy figure to the highest level since November 2010, when 537 businesses had to close down.
“The number of bankruptcies was thus higher than in any month in 2011,” Statistics Denmark wrote.
