The composite economic indicator for the service sector – including the finance and insurance sectors – rose weakly from minus 1 in December 2011 to plus 1 in January 2012, it appears of new data from Statistics Denmark.
Thus the indicator is positive for the first time since August.
“After the declining economic indicator last autumn, there are again weak traces of optimism in the service sector’s expectations for the future. It is in particular the expectations for the sales prices which improve the expectations, while the expectations for the employment are negative in all subtrades,” said Bo Sandberg, chief economist at Dansk Erhverv (The Danish Chamber of Commerce).
The composite economic indicator for the retail trade has declined from minus 7 in December to minus 11 in January 2012. “This decline is mainly due to falling expectations for the future sales,” Statistics Denmark wrote. This also affects the retail trade’s expectations for the employment which are now at minus 24 in January 2012 after minus 15 in December 2011.
