Unexpectedly strong financial year 2011 for Nordea

24-01-2012 14:22 The largest bank in the Nordic region, Nordea, performed better in the challenging year of 2011 than expected by the financial markets. Net profit for the year amounted to EUR 2,645 million, while the analysts had expected EUR 2,500 million.

“Our focused relation strategy and plan for the “New Normal” has created an increased efficiency in relation to costs, capital, liquidity and funding. At the same time we have maintained a strong income growth and a solid result development,” said CEO Christian Clausen.

In total, the income for fourth quarter and for the full year 2011 set a record. Net interest income amounted to EUR 5,456 million for all 2011 and EUR 1,365 million for fourth quarter, which also exceeds the analysts’ expectations.
