Danish Chamber of Commerce: business activity still low

03-09-2010 13:38 There is still a long way to go before business is back at the level before the financial crisis, the Danish Chamber of Commerce said in a comment on the new data from Statistics Denmark for the Danish companies’ buying and selling activity.
When comparing the first seven months of 2010 to the same period 2008, it appears that the turnover is 11.7 per cent lower in 2010.
Economist Bo Sandberg at the Danish Chamber of Commerce explains it like this:

»The turnover development can be compared to a relay race, where the really slow runner in the first round has now at last passed the finishing line and passed on the baton to a more average runner. But unfortunately the pack of runners is far away and hardly in sight«.

At Danske Bank senior economist Tore Damgaard Stramer looks at the export which showed in July a gain of 0.2 per cent compared to June. The economist explains that the export has showed a considerable improvement over the last year and has increased by 24 per cent since the low in May 2009.

When the export figures are compared to August 2008, it appears that the export is still 4.3 per cent below the previous peak.
