Slight increase in retail sales

The retail sales stabilized in July and showed an increase of 0.3 per cent.
»The retail sales of clothing, etc., decreased by 1.5 per cent, whereas the index for foods and other staple goods increased by 1.1 per cent. The sale of other consumer goods was roughly unchanged with an increase of 0.1 per cent,« Statistics Denmark wrote.
In spite of the July increase the retail sales still show an decrease of 0.7 per cent on an annual basis for the first seven months of the yeaer.
The decline has especially hit the clothing sector with a decrease of 1.9 per cent, whereas foods and staple goods have decreased by 0.8 per cent.
The decline reflects that the Danes’ private economy is under pressure. Although their personal wealth is fairly intact, the unemployment and the fear of unemployment deprive the Danes of their spending willingness.
