Maersk Line signed lucrative military contract

16-03-2010 10:19 The A.P.Møller-Mærsk company Maersk Line Limited has won a favourable contract for transportation of oil in Asia for the US military, TradeWinds wrote.
According to the Norwegian shipping newspaper, the contract which has been confirmed by the military is worth USD 8.6 million and concerns the chartering of the tanker Samho Moonstone of 5664 tonnes deadweight for nine months.
According to the newspaper the contract contains an option for an extension of 30 days so that the contract value may rise to USD 9.5 million. Maersk Line is understood to have beaten off ten other competitors for the contract from the US Military Sealift Command.
The primary mission of the vessel will be to carry oil for the US Department of Defence between ports in the Far East. It is expected to initiate the work for the military in May 2010. Direkt/BNS
