The retail chain Dansk Supermarked (Danish Supermarket) with totally 1,348 stores by the names Netto, Føtex, Bilka, A-Z and Salling achieved in 2009 a profit after taxes of DKK 2 billion in spite of economic slowdown and hesitant consumers.
This is a record profit for the chain and an improvement of DKK 400 million compared to the previous year when the consumers’ failing willingness to buy really hit the grocery chain
The group’s total market share in Denmark has increased and has never been bigger, CEO Erling Jensen said at today’s press conference.
Abroad the grocery chain operates Netto stores in Great Britain, Germany, Poland and Sweden, where Dansk Supermarked has achieved a sales growth of four per cent – which is a handsome growth in a time when most retail chains have experienced falling sales.
In 2009 Dansk Supermarked invested over DKK 3.2 billion, nearly the same as the previous year, resulting in 75 new Netto stores and three new Føtex stores as well as a big storage complex for non-food and foods. Ritzau/BNS
