The consumption of toys has not been hit by the financial crisis and, for the time being, the over 3,000 employees at the LEGO Group at Billund need not worry about their job.
LEGO’s management announced today that the company has increased its share of the global toy market from 3.6 per cent to 4.8 per cent.
CEO Jørgen Vig Knudstorp said that the profit before taxes rose by 56 per cent to DKK 2.9 billion, while revenue rose by 22.4 per cent to DKK 11.6 billion in 2009.
The strong result means that LEGO’s owners – the Kirk Kristiansen family – will receive a dividend amouting to DKK 1 billion, and the board recommends that the dividend for 2010 is raised to DKK 1.5 billion.
Five years ago LEGO had to fight to survive, but the return to the core product – the LEGO brick – LEGO has been a success.
Today’s staff at Billund is 500 persons larger than a year ago. 1100 workers are engaged in the production department and 2000 employees are engaged in departments such as administration and development.
Globally, LEGO employs 8,600 persons.
