Maersk Tankers’ financial result for 2009 was a segment loss of USD 225 million after a profit of USD 405 million the previous year. Revenue rose to USD 1166 million from USD 940 million.
»In the major part of 2009 the freight market for tankers was characterized by falling demand for oil, rising oil stocks and substantial growth in the global fleet. The rates for all tanker segments were in 2009 considerably lower than the average level for the previous five years,« the A.P.Moller-Maersk Group wrote in its annual report.
The result for Maersk Tankers was last year negatively affected by declining ship values and provisions for loss-making charter-parties amounting to USD 209 million as well as expenses for the integration of the acquired tanker shipping company Broström amounting to USD 25 million.
The 2009 result was positively affected by the gains on sale of vessels amounting to USD 24 million compared to USD 135 million in 2008. Direkt/BNS
