The long and hard construction crisis continues

The construction sector’s expectations have declined compared to the previous month and continue at a very low level. The composite economic indicator is thus minus 47 in February after being minus 44 in January, excluding seasonal fluctuations, Statistics Denmark wrote today.
This means that the seasonally adjusted economic indicator is roughly at the same low level as a year ago. The indicator contains an estimate of the construction sector’s expectations for the employment in the coming three months and an estimate of the order backlog at the end of the previous month.
For the many unemployed construction workers the prospect of finding a new job is not very good. The expectations for the employment in the coming three months have declined and are now minus 29 in February after minus 26 in January.
The order backlog estimate has decreased compared to the previous month and is now at a very low level. The construction sector estimates the order backlog at minus 65 in February after minus 62 in January, Statistics Denmark wrote.
All lines of business in the construction sector have negative expectations for employment, revenue and tender bids in the next three months.
