97 per cent more unemployed than a year ago

03-09-2009 10:24 It is general knowledge that the unemployment has been rising in these last months. But now data from Statistics Denmark show that 87,000 more Danes are unemployed which corresponds to 97 per cent more than a year ago.
»The number of unemployed amounted in the second quarter of the year to 177,000 persons, corresponding to 6 per cent of the labour force. The increase has mainly taken place during the last six months,« Statistics Denmark wrote.
Totally, 2.76 million persons were employed in the second quarter of 2009.
»The number of part-time workers compared to the second quarter 2008 has increased by 16,000 persons. On the other hand, the number of full-time employed has decreased by 95,000 persons. This results in a total decrease of the employment of 79,000 persons compared to the second quarter 2008,« Statistics Denmark wrote.
In general, the economists expect that the Danish unemployment will continue to increase, though not quite as fast as was the case in the spring of 2009.
