DFDS acquired new passenger ship
06-09-2006 10:09 af Silas Bay Nielsen
The ferry line DFDS has bought the passenger ship Fjord Norway from the Norwegian shipping line Fjord Line.
The handing-over takes places on October 16, and in November the ship will sail on a new DFDS route and call at Bergen, Haugesund, and Stavanger before it crosses the North Sea with Newcastle as destination.
»We are convinced that there is a strong market potential which will increase for both passengers and freight on both sides of the North Sea,« CEO Søren Jespersen, DFDS, said.
At the same time the route between Gothenburg, Kristianssand and Newcastle will shut down from November 1, and the ship Princess of Scandinavia, which sails on this route, has been sold to a foreign company.
Fjord Norway will fly the Danish flag but before it is put into service it will undergo repair and upgrading.
Fjord Norway is a sister ship of King of Scandinavia which sails between Amsterdam and Newcastle.
The acquisition of Fjord Norway and the sale of Princess of Scandinavia are not expected to have any significant effect on DFDS’s expected annual results. Neither Fjord Line nor DFDS want to reveal the price of Fjord Norway.
