Huge investment in North Sea wind power planned
27-08-2009 08:30
Over the next few years, thousands of offshore wind turbines will be built in the waters off Denmark and its North Sea neighbours.
New figures from the Danish consulting company Make Consulting predict that the number of new wind turbines currently planned for the North Sea will, if realized, produced a massive 16.7 gigawatts of power – equivalent to the electricity generated by 5,566 of Vestas' largest wind turbines.
Between 2009 to 2015, the company states, plans are underway to construct enough wind turbines to power 35 million households.
The plans look set to boost the order books of Europe’s two largest wind turbine manufacturers namely Siemens Wind Power ad Danish-based Vestas, Borsen writes.
Anders Lake-Jensen, director of Vestas Offshore, told the newspaper that his company was ready to compete for the huge contracts expected to be put out for tender over the next few years.
